In this role you will have the opportunity to work with some iconic named brands such as Nescafe, Purina, Kit Kat and Quality Street to name but a few. Packaging plays a vital role in protecting our products, as it is the first thing our consumers see on the shelf and the last they experience as they savour our wonderful products. As the Head of Packaging, you will lead a talented team to ensure the delivery of safe, compliant, functional, and environmentally sound packaging across all product categories.
A day in the life of Head of Packaging
In this role no 2 days look the same, you could be visiting recycling plants, packaging supplies retailers or Nestle’s own facilities. This position involves actively aligning with internal stakeholders but also engaging with external ones, fostering collaboration across the packaging value chain, and driving the implementation of supportive policies such as Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR). You will play a pivotal role in aligning corporate, governmental, and non-governmental approaches to effectively address packaging sustainability challenges and capitalise on emerging opportunities.
Other key aspects of the role include:
Reporting to the UK & Ireland Technical Director with a dotted line to the Head of Packaging for Europe, your focus will be on ensuring Safety and Compliance, sustainability and driving e collaboration for the recycling of our packaging.
Leading a team of Packaging Experts, who are based in various locations and continuing to inspire, motivate and maintain solid working relationships.
An increasingly important part of the role is the ability to work with Public Affairs to help shape Government Packaging legislation to ensure that it is workable and can be implemented.
Managing local Packaging Projects for brands not within the European regional scope, as well as initiatives related to Total Delivery Cost, promotions, reuse and refill, locally managed Co-Manufacturers/ Co-Packers
Supporting market scope factory teams in continuously improving packaging operations.
Supporting the development of the Market Recycling Infrastructure Strategy and driving related projects.
Supporting packaging Capital investments.
What will make you successful?
Graduate in Packaging or Printing Technology, Mechanical, Industrial or Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Food Technology or equivalent.
Operational Experience:
Broad experience in packaging development, packaging sustainability, packaging safety and compliance, UK packaging regulations and project management within the FMCG industry.
Demonstrated leadership experience as a Group Manager in an operational context, showcasing your inspirational and inclusive leadership of teams.
Over 8 years of operational/Research & Development experience in a packaging, operations, quality or engineering position.
