Nancy Paulsen Books is seeking an Editorial Assistant or Assistant Editor to join our team. In this role, you will report to the Publisher and Associate Publisher of Nancy Paulsen Books. You will provide administrative support and help with daily editorial activities for picture books, middle grade, and YA titles—including graphic novels—while communicating with authors, agents, and different departments within the division. You will also be responsible for managing book schedules, writing copy, reading submissions and editing select projects.
Nancy Paulsen Books is home to many award-winning and New York Times bestselling authors, including Jacqueline Woodson, Derrick Barnes, Lisa Fipps, Ruth Behar, Krystal Sutherland and Ellen Hopkins. We have a particular interest in publishing books representing diverse experiences and perspectives throughout the world across genre, format, and age ranges. We have a robust commercial and literary publishing program with success built in both the trade and school and library market. The ideal candidate is an ambitious self-starter who is both creative and detail-oriented and can juggle multiple priorities. An enthusiasm for and knowledge of children’s books is essential. Must be a strong writer and critical thinker who enjoys working on a wide range of projects.
*This hybrid role is based in New York City and will require someone in commutable distance to coordinate in-person author and agent meetings, mailings, special projects, and other in-person responsibilities as needed.
The salary at the Editorial Assistant level is $48,000; the salary at the Assistant Editor level is $53,000.
