POSITION SUMMARY
The Materials Management Manager - Direct Materials reports to the Supply Chain Manager - Direct Materials and is responsible for appropriately managing supply, material movements, and MRP-related projects for 250 SKUs valued at $4M in site-specific direct material inventory. The Materials Management Manager - Direct Materials will act (at a plant level) as a liaison between Procurement, Operations, Planning, and the Supplier base to communicate long-term inventory requirements and work with all groups to implement optimal strategies. Additionally, this role has responsibility for directly leading and managing a team of on-site personnel, coordinating as needed with outside locations to optimize warehouse inventories. This will include but is not limited to: stock counts, physical staging and stock movements, artwork transitions, as well as MRP settings and inventory replenishment for assigned plant(s). This position requires serving as a lead for the group, including training and project work on behalf of the whole group and increased travel to other sites.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university plus 5-7 years of work experience in a progressively responsible fulfilment/inventory/production planning role
At least 3 years of experience utilizing an ERP system in a supply chain/fulfilment capacity
Prior management/supervisory experience is required
PREFERRED EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE
Degree major in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field is preferred
Prior experience using SAP material requirements planning is highly preferred
Prior experience using SAP integrated business planning is preferred
Demonstrated mastery of Supply Chain Direct Materials material planning, order execution, and supervisory skills
Demonstrated ability to perform in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, understanding priorities and employing a strong sense of urgency as needed
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Regulates direct material inventory in order to meet a very dynamic forecast plan, coming from multiple people and business systems
Makes all ordering decisions regarding quantity and delivery dates for ingredients and packaging, working with global suppliers, some of which have multiple month lead times, and storing them in space-constrained conditions
Support packaging operations that run 24/5 and often 24/7, constantly monitoring the daily and weekly production schedule
Assist in expediting deliveries as needed when inventory inaccuracies and schedule changes occur
Works with other plant Materials Management Supervisors and Managers to coordinate shared inventory (at plant and supplier)
Responsible for posting of goods movements (goods receipts, transfers, adjustments etc.)
Controls the movement and physical assignment of inventory around the warehouse including quarantined, supplier returns, and point of use
Completes physical inventory counts (according to ABC Cycle and ad-hoc as needed)
Facilitates movements of obsolete and slow moving inventory
Coordinates communications between Procurement, Operations, and Planning at a plant level
Participates in regional and global supply chain improvement projects on behalf of inbound supply chain
Analyzes long term supply requirements and implements inventory strategies to mitigate risk as assigned
Ensures compliance with all aspects of safety related to warehouse contents and practices (housekeeping, layout improvement, material quarantine, and operations)
Develops standard operating procedures and work aid instructions for operational excellence
Coordinates trials for new material specifications and/or new suppliers
Troubleshoots and solves business process challenges that cause errors related to inventory, sometimes involving multiple business systems with replicated information
Provides coverage at other sites as needed due to vacation, extended absence, and position openings
As needed, serves as lead for the Supply Chain Direct Materials group for projects and implementations
Performs other duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages a team of 4-15 direct and indirect reports (both union and non-union)
Conducts daily, weekly, and monthly operational and planning meetings with direct reports to keep them informed of current problems, changes, and new developments in the department and company
Completes timecard approvals and scheduling for hourly employees
Monitors work productivity and recommends and implements changes to improve work productivity
Plans and monitors workload for timely and accurate completion of tasks
Coordinates workflow and procedures to maximize service
Coaches and counsels direct reports on performance issues
Trains, coaches, and counsels less experienced peers in the Supply Chain Direct Materials group
Completes annual and semi-annual performance appraisals for all direct reports in timely manner
Arranges for cross training of team to maximize productivity and provide coverage for all functions
Counsels direct reports on educational and job opportunities that will enhance their career development
Administers all policies and procedures set forth by Florida Crystals
Aligns management practices according to applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements pertaining to direct or indirect reports
