Under the general supervision of a faculty investigator or laboratory supervisor studying immune responses to a variety of viruses including hepatitis C virus, herpes simplex virus, respiratory syncytial virus, and SARS-CoV-2, we are seeking a Research Technologist who will be responsible for independently performing molecular, immunologic, and cell culture experiments in a research laboratory and contributing to general maintenance of the laboratory, equipment and supplies.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Follows established procedures or protocols and utilizes an aseptic technique to process whole blood into research samples and potentially perform viral immunology experiments.
Completes basic blood separation and processing which includes receipt and organization of various samples from multiple cohorts spread across the JHM system, effective communication with internal/external study teams, monitoring and maintenance of inventories derived from these sorts, and pulling aliquots from freezers to satisfy researchers requests for various study samples.
Collects, organizes, and maintains accurate data records with excellent attention to detail. Operates lab computers for data entry. Must be familiar with standard Microsoft Office products, especially Excel.
Monitors inventory of lab materials and supplies in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Attends laboratory meetings with team physicians and scientists to discuss the specific scientific questions addressed in the laboratory and their potential application to improving patient care.
These responsibilities may be performed (based on skill set and interest)
Performs various biological assays to explore mechanisms influencing viral outcome and infectivity: nucleic acid extraction, gel electrophoresis, real-time PCR, ELISA, cell culture, transfection, molecular cloning, Western blotting, sequencing, ow cytometry, in vitro viral infection, Luciferase assay, etc.
Operates basic laboratory equipment: centrifuge, pH meter, analytical balance, spectrophotometer, microscope, and/or utilizes laminar ow hood. This person may also utilize sophisticated instrumentation such as ow cytometer, thermal cycler, plate washer/reader, pipettes, and luminometer. Maintains and makes minor adjustments to equipment, e.g. calibrating, and alignment.
Prepares solutions, reagents, and stains following standard laboratory formulas and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a related field.
Some related post-undergraduate work experience is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
Basic Microsoft Office experience helpful.

Starting Salary Range: $15.50 - $26.00 HRLY ($43,160 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
