Create moderate to highly complex PWB layouts using inputs from the schematic designers and other members of engineering. As a senior electronic CAD designer, the candidate will play a critical role in the development of designs for new or modified high-density printed wiring boards. Assist in the design and development of moderately complex and detailed layouts of printed wiring boards(PWBs).
Essential Functions:
- Assists electrical engineers with the design and layout of electrical hardware, primarily printed wiring boards (PWBs), and is able to interpret and understand all basic design requirements.- Possesses working knowledge of industry-standard practices for schematic and PWB designs.
- Typically works on moderate to highly complex PWB designs and associated documentation.
- Works with moderate to minimal oversight from senior technical personnel and is able to identify design issues and bring these issues to their attention.
- Demonstrates proficiency with all major design tools used within the group. May be asked to assist others with tool usage.
- Demonstrates proficiency in the implementation of design techniques such as differential pairs, length matching, impedance control, blind & buried vias, and break out of high density, fine pitch components.
- Experience using advanced packaging layout techniques such as dynamic wire-bond, complex flex and 3D die stacking.
- Ability to follow processes and work instructions and adapt to new processes and work instructions quickly. Regularly provides feedback on the effectiveness of processes and work instructions to management.
- Regularly interfaces with DFM engineers to define and implement fabrication criteria ensuring manufacturability.
- Assist engineers with constraint editing and entry.
- Regularly works with multiple senior technical staff members on design projects. Demonstrates the ability to accept inputs from multiple members of the project team and acts on them appropriately. Requests management assistance when conflicting information is provided by team members.
- Effectively communicates project status and issues to management and members of the project team in oral or written form as requested for the project.
- Demonstrated ability to efficiently execute a project task and drive a layout project to completion.
- Responsible for other assignments at the discretion of the supervisor.
Associates degree or certificate from a two-year technical school in applicable discipline or demonstrated equivalent knowledge and skills. Formal education in electronics or electrical circuit theory is a significant benefit.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to collect, organize, and capture design details in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- 10+ years of experience in the field of PWB design or technical drafting with specific tools knowledge.
- Detailed knowledge of Mentor Graphics DxDesigner, Expedition, and Expedition Advanced Packaging design tools required (VX). Working knowledge of AutoCAD (2D), CAM350, and standard Microsoft Office products also required. Working knowledge of Solidworks desirable.
- Familiarity with industry standards: IPC-7351, JEDEC-JP95, MIL-STD-1835.
- Other domain-specific knowledge or experience that complements the individual’s design skills, including but not limited to PWB assembly, PWB fabrication, hardware assembly, or hardware testing, is required.
