What does the role look like?
Collins Aerospace Systems ‘Wolverhampton’ is looking to recruit Machinists for the new ‘Next Generation Bevel Gear’ cell machining team. This will be a brand-new ‘state of the art’ machining facility with significant investment in equipment and new technologies. The role would be based in the new cell created in July 2023.
In the production ramp up phase, the machinists will provide support for development work and new cell introduction requirements, working closely with Lead Manufacturers and Manufacture Engineering, learning new skills, and contributing to the overall needs of the team.
In the final condition (2025) the Machinists will be responsible for the set-up, oversight, first line maintenance and product quality output of multiple automated machines, to achieve production volumes.
Shift working and some overtime will be required. Full training and support will be provided.
What will your day-to-day responsibilities look like?
Shopfloor production – selection of machines including either 5-axis turning, grinding, or milling.
Setting, operating and basic program / offset manipulation of various machines and automation.
Working with Manufacturing Engineers to introduce new equipment and parts and into the area.
Working to process layouts, work instructions and drawings.
Adherence to quality control and compliance systems.
Problem solving of basic technical issues.
Materials movement within the cell, SWIP monitoring and availability of tools and equipment.
Co-ordination of First Line Maintenance and TPM requirements.
Development of personal skills and capabilities relevant to the Bevel Gears area.
Support for continuous improvements – active participation on lean events.
Carrying out all activities in accordance with the EH&S procedures.
