The Role
We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join the Tessian Gateway team. This team oversees the development of a key customer integration, a Mail Transfer Agent that processes inbound and outbound emails, or email gateway.
The Tessian Gateway server is highly optimised for secure email traffic and integrates with M365, G-Suite and Exchange Server, for both inbound and outbound traffic. It currently serves millions of inbound, outbound and journal email transactions, every day, across the world.
You will be joining at an exciting time, as the team prepares to furtherly scale the Tessian Gateway following the Proofpoint acquisition. We are also looking to transition to a new multi-tenant architecture, and to integrate deeper with the Proofpoint ecosystem.
Your day-to-day
In our Gateway Team, we deeply appreciate DevOps culture, as we build the Gateway and we run it. Our day to day involves developing the gateway for scale; researching and implementing security measures; and monitoring production environments to discover what’s next for the team using product data.
You’ll be expected to:
Design and build reliable distributed systems that handle volumes of data with low latency.
Maintain and support business-critical systems where scale and latency are front-of-mind.
Ship code to production every day using CI/CD.
Tackle the challenges that come with processing highly sensitive data.
Learn to build with security in mind.

What you bring to the team
Operating a mail transport agent, or email gateway, is an interesting challenge with significant technical complexity, especially when considering the scale of our traffic and our security guarantees.
Essential Experience
Proven experience with NodeJS for backend development
Experience with TypeScript
Extensive experience with AWS and related services (Lambda/ECS)
Experience with Docker for creating and deploying containers
Beneficial Experience
High volume NoSQL databases
Terraform built environments
SMTP protocol, network interfaces
Previous experience with Python
Experience working with data and infrastructure at scale
