An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Standards Engineer to join our Submarines Standards Office in Derby.
In this role, you will facilitate and coordinate the production and maintenance of various Rolls-Royce Standards which inform and complete our Product Definition alongside the component model and drawings. You will assist in translation of technical requirements from Subject Matter Experts across the business into clear, concise and formally-governed engineering documents.
You will get exposure to a wide network of colleagues including senior leadership and with acquire a breadth of experience across the Nuclear Submarines business, our processes and products. Working closely with SME-s, there is an opportunity to gain a depth of understanding in specific engineering technologies.

What you will be doing:
You will coordinate maintenance and creation of various Rolls-Royce Standards and will look after:
Prioritisation of tasks and liaising with request originators, SME-s and stakeholders to secure resource, define clear and consistent requirements, and deliver the right standards at the right time.
Guiding SME-s and standards through the governing process (SUB WI M3-04)
Ensuring the standards and associated work files are correct and complete.
Learning key interfaces and making connections around the business.
Resolving contradictions and conflicts within requirements and standards. Seeking feedback on requirements documents and standards.
Coordination of ballots and stakeholder reviews.
Supporting SME-s in authoring of design and engineering standards and substantiation/basis documents.
Technical checking of standards to ensure that the requirements placed by various stakeholders fit together cohesively, are reasonable and achievable.
Editorial checking of draft standards to the Submarines Standards format and style.
Presenting at formal governance approval boards.

Apprenticeship or degree-level engineering qualified (or equivalent).
Self-motivated, enthusiastic, tenacious, and resilient.
Knowledge/experience of national/equivalent standards and techniques in one or more of the following disciplines will be advantageous: engineering, design, quality, processes, manufacturing, inspection.
Experience in managing and reconciling differing opinions from wide ranges of stakeholders.
An eye for detail and seeking simplicity.
Bold and able to challenge the status quo.
Experience in writing/maintaining Engineering documents is desirable as is experience of managing programmes/interdependencies.
Awareness of the structure and requirements of standards and their interaction within a wider landscape is desirable.

To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don’t currently already have this in place.
Due to the nature of work the business conducts and the protection of certain assets, you must hold a UK nationality. Any dual nationals will require additional scrutiny and background checks prior to commencing work with RRSL.
