About the Team:
Green Transition offers services that help our clients achieve net zero emissions targets and better plan, execute their low carbon transition in Europe, Asia and North America. The Climate Action team, working from the Brussels, London, Ottawa and Spanish offices, focuses on specific elements within the green transition, with a focus on climate diplomacy, urban and regional cooperation, and policy dialogues . Our clients are all relevant bodies within the European Commission and other international multilateral organizations leading climate change action.
The Climate Action team is growing, and to support this growth we are looking for exceptional individuals with experience as project managers to help us deliver current work and secure new opportunities. We are especially interested in profiles with technical expertise in the field of climate change adaptation, resilience and just transition and experience working with EU institutions.
About the Role:
We are looking for a dynamic individual who will thrive in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will:
Oversee the day-to-day management of one or more projects, reporting to relevant Contract Directors/Project Directors
Be directly involved in the planning and management of large, multi-national and multi-disciplinary teams
Set up and manage formal and informal networks of government officials, experts, subcontractors and other stakeholders from the project management side
Set-up, monitor and manage large and complex project budgets
Oversee risk management and contractual compliance in line with ICF systems, clients’ terms and other requirements, setting up/managing PMOs on larger projects
Prepare key written outputs, such as contractual reports, methodological concepts and frameworks, visionary papers, analytical/evaluative pieces and other pivotal documents for clients
Oversee and quality assure written outputs produced by other team members and experts
Share expertise and specific knowledge on climate adaptation, resilience, disaster risk reduction and just transition topics and policies and provide written outputs (different documents, reports, articles) and advice in this field across the team and different projects
Develop, implement and continuously improve tools, systems and procedures for effective programme management, and coordinate across the wider team and business
Support the facilitation of external meetings and events, by providing strong organisational skills
Support business development activities such as capture of key opportunities and proposal-writing
Possibly: Take on the line management, training, development and mentoring of 1-2 junior staff
Be based in either Brussels, Spain or the UK with a preference for Brussels
Required Experience:
The responsibilities outlined above require at least 5 years of progressive professional experience, including previous experience managing projects, preferably in a multi-national, multi-disciplinary setting. Technical/academic training and expertise in fields related to climate change adaptation and resilience, just transition, climate diplomacy & international cooperation are preferred. Other requirements:
Experience managing international projects involving climate adaptation/resilience and just and social transition policies a distinct advantage
Project management experience, ideally backed up by relevant training and / or certifications, such as Prince 2, PMP, PMI, etc.
Experience working with EU institutions
Experience in coordinating multi-national and multi-disciplinary teams of more than 5 people
Experience in the coordination of internal / external experts at various levels to ensure tasks are completed to time and to budget
Knowledge of communications methods and tools in the context of disseminating outputs
Experience in leading or contributing to capture and proposal-writing to win new work will be an asset
Excellent verbal, written, analytical and presentation skills in English is required – Fluency in other languages will be an asset
Degree in environmental science, policy, engineering, economics or related discipline (Master’s preferred)
Personal qualities:
Ability to self-organise, prioritise and manage/ work with multiple work strands and teams in parallel under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
High level of ability and confidence to perform tasks with minimum supervision
Ability to work flexibly to meet client and organisational priorities and needs
Strong inter-personal skills and ability to work well with all levels of internal staff, as well as clients and sub-contractors
Ability to work within multi-cultural, multi-disciplinary teams spread across several countries (virtual teams)
Willingness to travel, as required
