Overview:

Reporting to the Plant Manager, this position is responsible for leading the operations team to ensure optimum utilization of manpower and materials on equipment run according to schedule. This is necessary to ensure quality products will be made safely and efficiently, at minimum cost, on time and in accordance with the approved business plan.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Creates, implements and drives key safety initiatives, assuring resources are sufficient to create a zero and beyond (accident free at work and offsite) culture. 
  • Determines appropriate skill sets for operators throughout the plant.  Works to improve operator flexibility, work assignments and reduce labor costs.
  • Champions with Supervisors lean manufacturing and six sigma concepts.
  • Responsible for total production of cell metrics including safety, production quantity, customer service, defect levels, waste, work order attainment, etc.
  • Trains and facilitates Supervisors in achieving improved productivity and reduction of waste.
  • Analyzes KPIs, prepares charts/records and initiates remedial action.
  • Utilizes effective leadership skills in a manner to achieve proper motivation, performance, reward, respect and accountability for all operational resources.
  • Coordinate the maintenance of manufacturing data systems necessary to support the manufacturing process, and provide information for budgeting, capacity and planning processes. 
  • Effectively manages cross functional relationships with other departments to support effective use of manpower, materials, and equipment, as well as productivity and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Promotes “on-the-spot” problem solving activity, supporting associates with decisions and needs and ensuring progress toward operator led process control.
  • Executes the financial plans associated with the operational team.
  • Maintains a visible and vocal presence as the shop floor leader.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Results driven individual who has demonstrated ability managing in a high performance-manufacturing environment
  • Able to manage and execute multiple, complex tasks and deal easily with pressure on a daily basis
  • Able to motivate, communicate, and drive continuous improvement
  • Critical thinker with excellent analytical abilities
  • Solid planning, leadership, and administrative skills
  • High energy, demonstrates urgency and fast pace
  • Good understanding of business principles and practices
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma and lean manufacturing

Required Qualifications:

  • BS degree preferred – fields preferred:  engineering or related practical science, business or organizational management
  • 5-7 years of experience in manufacturing management experience
  • 3 - 5 years of leadership - leading and managing teams
  • Project management experience
  • Proven ability to work in a team setting

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Works out of a normal office environment with standard office equipment available.
  • Will be required to sit, bend, kneel, squat, use keyboard, read, write, and speak fluently.
  • Employee will be required to work productively and cooperatively in a high-volume, fast paced, highly pressured environment and be able to respond efficiently and courteously to unanticipated problems and crisis.
  • This role is not typically exposed to adverse environmental conditions
