Underwriter - Cargo and Specie
Salary: £85,000

Aviva is a market leader in the marine market with over 10% market share in the International Underwriting Association (IUA) cargo and specie company market space and an ever more significant growing book in the Fine Art and Specie market specifically. A bit about the job:
The role of Underwriter is key to the continued success, growth, and ambition we have for Cargo and Specie, and sits within a team of 7 writing wholesale business from our company Box in Lloyd’s and a wider team of marine underwriters in London primarily working out of our London office.
Our appetite is broad & worldwide including North America, whilst we are a company market operating in the Lloyd’s building, we have all the necessary surplus lines and other global licences to write business globally. On the Specie side, we mainly write Fine Art, but with a growing General Specie account.
You will have accountability for ensuring the allocated business is aligned to plan requirements for all Marine business written & renewed as well as delivering the volume, quality and profitability of growth opportunities to the Line of Business which enables them to hit their plan targets.
Within this role you will also be building relationships with brokers and customers all over the world and be responsible for the performance and development of the risks assigned to you and as per plan. Plans include metrics for new and renewal targets for GWP, NWP, Loss Ratio, Expense Ratio, and Combined Ratio, and rate achievement.
Also, on a case-by-case basis judgement is required to ensure overall strategy and governance targets are met.
Skills and experience we’re looking for:
Experience in underwriting and handling London market wholesale cargo / stock throughput and / or fine art and specie business
Proven track record of underwriting a portfolio for a London Market/Lloyd’s Marine account including understanding the metrics required to monitor such a portfolio
Well regarded by major London market brokers with the ability to build and maintain relationships. We accept that your strength may be either Cargo or Specie, and we will be looking for candidates with the ability and intellectual curiosity to develop their strengths, knowledge and market profile where necessary
Results oriented, but vitally we will look for someone with a strong team working ethic, supporting the Senior Underwriters
The ability to plan and prioritise effectively

Salary £85,000, depending on location, skills, experience, and qualifications
Bonus opportunity - 10% of annual salary actual amount depends on your performance and Aviva’s.
