We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced data engineer to bring their technical and teamworking skills to rapidly build data domain knowledge and capability to support and enhance our constantly expanding portfolio of data assets.
A bit about the job:
The role resides within the central Data Insights Team that predominantly support the Insurance Wealth & Retirement (IWR) business through the provision of data products, and the role will both support the management and change of the existing data estate alongside design and implementation of new data capability in-line with Aviva project objectives. You will be working collaboratively with colleagues across the wider DI function to ensure consistency of approach to ensure joined-up business orientated outcomes.
You will be part of a team who cares deeply about allowing colleagues to bring their whole self to work. We hold strong community values and are active in making the company a better place for colleagues and customers.
We are looking for candidates who can:
Interpret and validate business requirements through interaction with stakeholders to refine them and build appropriate data solutions.
Work closely with delivery teams to provide insight that enables them to solve business problems through data usage.
Communicate data problems and solutions to non-data stakeholders and keep them updated on progress/issues/risks on project work and regular processes.
Own the delivery of regular load processes and maintenance of the data environments.
Ensure data governance processes are followed to ensure our data is used in the right ways by the right people.
Undertake peer review activity to reduce risk.
Document solutions in terms of high/low-level design.
Collaborate with other data teams within Aviva sharing knowledge, ideas, and best practice and assist embedding those practices into the team.
Skills and experience we’re looking for:
Strong experience in Relational Database Management Systems to query large and complex databases (with a specific experience of SQL Server 2014+) and advanced ETL/ELT experience to change and develop data pipelines (SSIS 2012+). Knowledge of other tooling like VS Code, Informatica or similar for data management would be advantageous.
Knowledge of CI/CD processes, particularly Azure Dev Ops (ADO) as our core delivery and deployment processes.
Understanding of data modelling techniques; particularly those suited to analytical data, such as Dimensional Modelling, would also be a real advantage.
Strong communication & planning skills, with the ability to describe technical problems to audiences of different levels and take responsibility of activities owned by creating your own delivery plans and escalating issues and risks where needed.
Experience of pension products and/or pension data.
