Job Descrption
TL;DR:
- CUR8 is looking for a talented, ambitious, and impact driven Software Engineer to join our growing product & engineering team.
- We are looking for a full-stack engineer with an emphasis on Back-end proficiency as a priority.
- Ideal candidates have 2+ years of experience and must be proficient working with at least one of Go or Typescript at a minimum.
- This is an exciting opportunity to join our growing engineering team, working with our existing two engineers (Lead & Senior), our Principal Designer, and our Product Director to help shape and grow the wider product & engineering team.
- The role is a hybrid role, working from home but also from our lovely Liverpool Street office (open to discuss number of office days).
About CUR8:
The science is clear - even if we do everything else right on reducing emissions, the world needs to remove 200 Gigatonnes of carbon from the atmosphere by the year 2050. There is no Net Zero without carbon removals.
At CUR8, we’re driven by making the worldwide market for Carbon Removals - on a mission to facilitate 1Bn tonnes of carbon removed in a single year. We combine financial and scientific expertise to build high-quality and diverse carbon removal portfolios that enable companies to invest in carbon impact with confidence and ultimately reach net zero. Offering products and services that will enable the Carbon Removals market to scale more quickly. Accelerating market development by unlocking financing for the most innovative carbon removal projects to scale.
We’re systemic thinkers. Together with our sister NGO, Rethinking Removals, we collaborate with the entire carbon removals ecosystem, across suppliers, buyers, policymakers, and narrative setters, together to develop and invest in future projects to make sure there are enough carbon removals in 1, 5, 10 and 25 years time.
About our team:
We’re a small but mighty team; between us, we’ve built, scaled, and sold successful tech businesses, advised governments on net zero, shaped global narratives at Nature, New Scientist, and the BBC, led startup support and investments at Google, invested in and built carbon removal startups. Oh, and done the TED talk about carbon removal (haven’t you seen it yet?).
About the role:
We’re looking to grow our initial product squad from 2 to 4 engineers. From a team perspective, you will join a small in-house team, reporting into our Product Director.
A particular focus of this role will be leading our front-end stack. You will provide technical leadership on the front-end elements of our stack whilst also writing high quality production code. We’re an early stage startup after all, we’re looking for doers and creators.
In this role, you’d get to be responsible for:
- Working with the rest of the team to develop, implement, test, and ship customer facing product features - working across the whole stack and multiple products.
- Designing and building APIs for internal and external services.
- Integrating with external APIs and normalising the collected data into our data model
- Input into key technical design decisions and the ability to explore and propose new technologies and solutions.
- Collaborating with the broader product & engineering team to build out and evolve our product & technical architecture.
- Own new technical initiatives and key parts of our tech stack as it evolves.
Product wise, you’ll work on solving multiple product problems and exciting front-end challenges - including:
- Simplifying the complex world of Carbon Removals.
- First of kind data products and meaty visualisation challenges.
About our stack:
Our tech stack is new and evolving!
- Front-end: Typescript, React, Node and Next.js.
- Back-end: Go, Typescript, Node, GraphQL, and PostgreSQL.
- We also use Firebase for authentication, Github for version control, and Digital Ocean for infrastructure (with a planned future move to GCP).
Requirements
About you:
Please treat the below as simply a starting point. If you don’t exactly meet all of the below points but think you’d be really impactful in our team, we really want to hear from you.
- You have 2+ years of experience as a full-stack engineer
- You can point to having built and released into the world impactful features that demonstrate impact and a high level of technical execution
- You are comfortable with a range of technologies and programming languages, with direct experience of building successful products in similar tech-stacks to ours today
- You are passionate about impact, startups, and climate change and you’re a proactive self-starter and team player
- You’re happy to lead and take initiative in an ambitious, fast-paced, and ambiguous environment
- You have an understanding of key climate change /sustainability themes; experience in climate is valuable but not essential. We need you to care about the cause though!
About our process:
Our process aims to give all of us the chance to get to know each other, our aspirations, and whether this is an exciting fit. It starts with an initial chat to tell you more about CUR8, what we’re looking for, and understand more about your goals. Next is a skills focused interview (technical interview), which leads to an ideally in person final stage split over two parts: a non technical competency based interview and a 1:1 founder meeting.
